They might not be as important as picking the best running shorts or shoes, but choosing the right socks for running can make a real difference. Stance makes many great running socks and you can’t go far wrong with a pair of its run-technical socks. The Stance Icon Run Crew is a stand-out option if you’re looking for a mid-cushioned sock that’s great for longer run comfort. Or if you want some extra padded warmth in the winter.

Stance Icon Run Crew sock performance

Like the Brav Performance Socks, the thicker fabric doesn’t always work well with snug, race-fit shoes like the Adidas Adios Pro or the Nike Alphafly. Things can get a bit squeezed. But for roomier daily trainers and trail shoes, they’re a fantastic option.

There’s a considerable amount of padding in the reinforced heel and toes and pretty much all the way around the foot. That even extends up to cover the ankle to help prevent rubbing from your running shoes’ sidewalls and heel collars. However, they still manage to feel super plush without overheating. There’s also some additional arch support.

I’ve raced marathons in the Stance Icon Run and done plenty of 2-hour-plus plods without any blister woes. I love the mid-cut rise that brings some added warmth and protection – again great if you’re cutting along wild trails.

The leg cuffs hold nicely without pinching and that added thickness is good for durability, too. I’ve done hundreds of miles in my two test pairs and there’s no sign of wearing through all that fabric. The durability is handily backed up by a no-rip guarantee. If you tear them, Stance will replace them.

The only downside is that they can get a little heavy if your feet get drenched and lighter, thinner socks are definitely better in those conditions. The same applies to scorching hot days too.

But as a daily workhorse sock that delivers comfortable, blister-free miles, these are hard to fault. They come in medium and large sizes and nine different colours.
