Don’t sweat it

Read these reviews before you buy a deodorant that makes you smell like you've been bathing in off wine.

Adidas Action 3 Fresh - £2.99 for 250ml/£2.39 for 200ml

This delivers a powerful targeted spray that has a subtle, ferny smell. It's an anti-perspirant as well as a deodorant, making it ideal for sporty people. The anti-whitening properties mean that it won't leave marks all over your clothes.

Available nationwide.

Lynx Twist - £3.10 for 150ml

You twist the top of this spray can to expose the nozzle, which is not particularly convenient and feels like a bit of a gimmick. The spray itself is zesty but also smells a bit milky, and it's hard to see how using this will lead to you being overrun by the scantily clad ladies from the Lynx adverts.

Available nationwide.

Mitchum Endurance Sport - £2.79 for 200ml

BEST IN TEST

48-hour wetness protection is a grandiose claim, but in the case of this excellent anti-perspirant and deodorant it proves to be a true one. Not only that but it'll keep your t-shirt clear of embarrassing white marks, your body BO free and is as gentle on your skin as an ant's breath.

Available nationwide.

Moosehead Raging Deo Spray - £2.49 for 150ml

The brand is named after a wild animal and the way that the spray comes out needs a bit of taming because it's not very targeted. It also smells a bit alcoholic and chemical, and it stays on the skin for quite a long time.

Available at Sainsbury’s.

Deodorants V's Anti Perspirants

Often the words deodorant and anti perspirant are used interchangeably; but actually there is a significant difference between the two.

Deodorants do not stop sweat. Instead, they are designed to temporarily neutralise the smell or odour from the bacteria living on the skin. Many deodorants contain fragrance which serves to mask bad odour.

Antiperspirants are different in that they actually work on decreasing or halting the production of perspiration in the sweat glands. Once antiperspirant is applied, this forms a temporary plug in the opening of the sweat gland which stops the sweat being released.

An Antiperspirant

I recommend a review of Perspirex Antiperspirant. The website says it all. http://www.perspirex.co.uk
