It’s only seven miles, which seems slightly underwhelming until you realise how challenging the terrain is. Hills so steep you’ll be crawling up them, a ball-tighteningly fast waterslide, Tarzan-like rope swings, bog-covering cargo nets and other taxing manmade obstacles mean that nothing about this race is easy. Nothing about it is boring either.

Vertical Rush

Tower 42, City of London

The housing and homelessness charity Shelter are putting on Britain’s first tower race – where competitors race each other up the stairwells of lung-bustingly tall buildings. During Vertical Rush, entrants will have to peg it up 920 stairs to reach the finish line on the 42nd floor of Tower 42.

The Outdoors Show

NEC, Birmingham

As well as being able to buy all the outdoors kit you could ever need, you’ll also be able to test it in the specially built Elements Theatre where you’ll be subjected to manmade fog and monsoon rains. There are also mountain boarding and mountain bike demos and a adrenaline-pumping assault course suspended above the show floor.

The BRITS

Laax, Switzerland

This is your chance to see the cream of British freestyle skiing and snowboarding compete in the UK’s answer to the X-Games (only with more beer and japery). You’ll also get the chance to ski and ride world class slopestyle, boardercross courses, and, if you’re feeling ballsy, some sickening big kickers. What’s more, there’s a pumping music line-up every night of the event.
