FitBrit 2010
The UK's best gym challenge is back

Gentlemen and ladies, start your engines. FitBrit 2010 is back and - thanks to a few changes - it's better than ever.

FitBrit 2010, Men's Fitness, gym challenge

The UK's best gym challenge
More than 3,000 people took the Men’s Fitness FitBrit Challenge in 2009, and at the Grand Final in November last year some of the fittest people in the country came together to fight it out for the honour of being crowned FitBrit Champion.

This year FitBrit is back, bigger and better than ever. Once again Men’s Fitness and Fitness First have joined forces to produce the biggest gym challenge in the country. It's simply eight exercises done back-to-back against the clock and the fastest time wins.

Have a go
Anyone can take the Men's Fitness FitBrit Challenge. You can practise it whenever and wherever you want but you can only record an officially recognised time at a Fitness First gym. You don't have to be a Fitness First member to take the challenge, though - click here to find out how it works and how to get a free Fitness First three-day pass so you can go to one of their gyms and take the challenge.

Changes for 2010

After feedback from readers and discussions with competitors at last year's final, we’ve changed a few of the exercises for 2010. We decided that some of the moves in the original challenge offered too many opportunities for foul play – it was possible to shave seconds off your time by not performing the exercises correctly.

The new FitBrit Challenge is just as demanding as before, but now it's more cheat-proof. This means that when you see your place on the leaderboard it will be a fair reflection of your fitness levels, and you’ll know you haven’t been pipped by someone who skimped on the exercises. Check out this step-by-step guide to the new challenge.

The FitBrit Final
The FitBrit final 2010 will take place on Sunday 3rd October at Edgbaston Indoor Cricket Ground, Birmingham. The 100 fastest competitors (50 men, 50 women) will be invited to compete at the final. If you post a good enough time to qualify and would like to compete at the final, please keep this day free.

To be eligible for the FitBrit Final on 3rd October 2010, you must have taken the challenge and submitted a qualifying time by the 31st August 2010. You can take the FitBrit Challenge after this date but won't be eligible for the final.

are there any age groups involved in the CHALLENGE, or will I, a 75 year old have to compete against the 19 year olds? Im more familiar with the age group racing systems I became accustomed to in the US,( fast movements are just a little more awkward at my age) but Id love to try, just for the hell of it.

By maurice3389 on 27 March, 2010, 9:08am

Chatham Fitness First

Tried this for the first time at Chatham FF. Apparantly I am the only person so far, but early days. 15 41 which is OK (The distance between the row and the shoulders adds time) - Aiming for Sub 15 by September. When will the first results be published? Enjoyed it .. thanks MF.

Finish date

Hi, when does the quickest time have to be entered for?

By carriemunky on 19 May, 2010, 2:30pm

Age groups

Can we have more age groups in the competition,as other sporting contests have "seniors" etc. I appreciate that the number of competitors would increase, but you could just have the top 10 or 15 in the older groups.

By stusafes on 27 May, 2010, 8:28pm

Age groups

I agree. I'd love to know how I compare with others of a similar age. I have daughters in their twenties, and there's no way I can compete against them!

By rosalind on 4 June, 2010, 10:20pm

Age groups + Bunny hops?

1. Can we have 40-50, 50-60, etc age groups?

2. What is a rep on the bunny hop. From L to R or from L to R and back to L?

3. When is the last date for posting times?

By scoxlade on 16 June, 2010, 9:59pm

Timings

Can those out there getting time of 11 mins etc give a break down of times for each station. I'm at 13 mins and wondering where I need to make time up - guessing bike and running?

By gymbunny26 on 28 June, 2010, 10:00pm

Entered 15th April and still no posting of my time!

Having competed in Chatham Fitness First in April, I am still waiting for my results to be posted? I have conatcted FF Chatham 3 times already and still no joy. Not too happy but there you go! Good event , but if you are not spinning that bike on level 1, you are not in with a shot!

By seanbee on 14 July, 2010, 8:57pm

9.00 im very impressed

Even with a dream team including the following individuals I cant see how such a fast time is possible

1) James Cracknell (1.25)
2) Chris Hoy (3.00)
3) Paula Radcliffe (2.35) 23kph all the way

Leave you 2min for 150 reps...

By TeamTed on 15 July, 2010, 9:21am

Winning Time?

Just to let you guys know ... Faruk did not complete the challenge. There has been a mistake ... that was actaully the time he quit on the bike (confirmed at Romford) ... Although there is rumour of a certain Clarke Kent getting near to it!

By seanbee on 15 July, 2010, 9:29am

Question Time?

Hello :) i'm Danny, I'm 16 and want to compete in FitBrit sometime in my life.
Is there rules? If so where are they?
Is there an age restriction?
Any training tips?
Is there age groups?
Thanks in advance,
Danny Freeman

Timings

gymbunny26:

My recorded time is 11.27, the splits consisted of

Row: 1.46
Shoulder press: .35 (2.21)
Bunny Hops: .16 (2.37)
Cycle: 3.42 (6.19)
Bench Press: .26 (6.45)
Box Jumps: .18 (7.03)
Squats: .36 (7.39)
Run: 3.48 (11.27)

I'm personally aiming to drop time on the cycle and run most importantly as my PB individually for both is 3.21 on the run and 3.30 on the cycle. Desperate for sub 10.30!! SUCH hard work though, gotta love it : )

By brooke on 20 July, 2010, 3:02pm

How many times can we record a time?

Also, are we able to rerecord a time? Or does the first time count as final?

By brooke on 20 July, 2010, 3:22pm

Timings

Brooke

Thanks, good to know where I need to do the work - row, cycle and run (the things I normally don't do). Ha!

It is fun and I love it too. Aiming for 12 mins and i'll be happy gymbunny.

By gymbunny26 on 28 July, 2010, 7:00pm

Attempts

As far as i'm aware you are allowed three attempts.
