The latest football boots for speed
Speed of the puma

If you’re more of a Walcott than a Terry, these boots designed for dazzling pace will suit you down to the ground.

These boots were put through their paces by MF's resident boot tester and Blackpool F.C. striker Ben Burgess.

Puma V1.10 - RRP: £119.99

With the V1.10 Puma has created a boot built solely for speed. The fit is extremely snug which allows for greater touch and feel, while a carbon-fibre plate in the outsole reduces stud pressure and provides a sure-footed platform. There's a soft ground and a hard ground version, both of which are equally garish. Here is the soft ground one.

Nike Mercurial Vapor V - RRP: £129.99

From Cristiano Ronaldo to Sunday league Flash Dan, the Mercurial Vapor has proved itself at all levels. Designed for the fleet-footed player, the Vapor V is built with Nike Flywire technology, which allows it to be lightweight and extremely flexible. This does mean compromising on protection and durability, but if you go for these boots you’re likely to be showing tough-tackling opponents a clean pair of heels anyway. Again, there are two versions; hard ground and soft ground. Here is the VERY LOUD hard ground pair.

Adidas TUNiT F50i - RRP: £129.99

The Adidas TUNiT F50i has quickly established itself as one of the most popular boots around. As you’d expect from Adidas and the TUNiT line, this piece of footwear is dripping with technology, with sleek second skin for incredible ball feel and reduced weight, as well as a selection of studs and chassis to adapt to your individual playing style. Not to mention the best advertising campaign since Eric Cantona went toe to toe with the devil.

Umbro SX Valor II Ultra - RRP: £119.99

Umbro has taken the best features of other boots and combined them to produce the SX Valor II Ultra. Not content with just a K-leather upper, the manufacturer has woven in a ‘mystery’ synthetic material to produce a supposedly superior upper. There are better specialist boots on the market, but if you want an all-rounder then the Valor Ultra takes some beating. The soft ground version is shown here.
