Darren Roberts and brothers Steve and Nick Tidball are Team Men’s Fitness. Here, in their latest Team Men’s Fitness blog, they talk about their eleventh week of training for the fearsome 120km Namibia Desert Ultra Race on 8th April.

With less than four weeks to go I decided to do a six-hour run to see how my body would cope. It went well – apart from having to continually swallow my own vomit for the last hour. For that I blame Tesco. You see, I used this run to try out some of the snacks I’m planning to take on during the race, and first up were Tesco Finest fruit cookies! Packed with calories, compact and lightweight they seemed to be a no-brainer, that was until I felt them coming back up during my run. Still, I covered 41 miles with my legs feeling astonishingly strong thanks to all the strength training I’ve been doing at the gym. I think I’m almost ready for the desert.

We're all official members of the pre-race puke club now! I joined last Sunday as a result of the massive amounts of food I've been taking on to fuel my runs. Vomit aside, my training is going amazingly well. The upper-body stuff I've been doing in the woods – tree climbing and press-ups in the mud – is really paying off. I've never trained so hard for a sporting event and I have never felt more ready.
Darren
The key to getting across the finish line is proper preparation. Three weeks to go and I'm starting to wonder if I've done enough training for the race. I hope so because I'm going to have to cut back soon so I don't pick up any injuries before we fly out. Despite this worry, I can't wait to get to Namibia and get the race underway.
